T7-01 is the Jedi Knight's first companion, encountered on the Jedi starter world of Tython. T7-01 was sent ahead along with other droids as a scout by the Jedi Council to investigate the Flesh Raider menace, but his restraining bolt has limited the functionality of his sensors, and he was captured by the raiders. Once freed, T7 quests briefly with the Jedi Knight as a guest starting around level 5, and joins as a permanent companion at the end of the Tython class quest series (around level 7-10), just before the Knight gains his first lightsaber. T7 can function as ranged DPS or he can tank, when necessary.
T7 speaks in bleeps and bloops as you would expect from an Astromech, but his dialogue is subtitled for the player to read. Some sample dialogue: "T7 = glad to see Jedi! / / T7 = captured by Flesh Raiders + needs rescuing"
"Jedi + T7 = win!"
T7 uses special droid equipment, which is different from that used by most characters. Though it is available from a few other sources, if you plan on making T7 your main companion, don't miss out on the appropriate quest rewards.
From the Holonet on the official site:
The quirky and stubborn Astromech Droid designated T7-O1 hasnít been memory-wiped since his activation more than two centuries ago. This rare condition gives T7 a massive knowledge base, with detailed records of every mission heís ever undertaken and the many friends and enemies made along the way. Because his memories remain intact, T7 has developed a candid personality, a strong independent streak and a unique perspective on the galaxy. Unlike other droids, T7 doesnít perceive his organic owners as masters, but instead refers to them more like partners. Over the centuries, he has faithfully teamed up with senators, spies, smugglers and even Jedi. T7 sees himself as protector of his more fragile organic allies, willingly placing himself in harmís way and always ready to play the hero when innocent lives are in danger. Although he was originally designed for repair and piloting duties, T7 has accumulated many special modifications, expanding his potential uses on and off the battlefield. This little droid is much more than a mechanical servantÖ heís a friend and ally to the end.
From the in-game Codex:
A quirky and surprisingly stubborn astromech droid with a lively personality and strong independent streak, T7-01 serves the Jedi by bravely facing danger on a daily basis. Skilled in high-resolution sensor scans, mechanical repair and starship piloting (along with numerous undocumented talents), the droid's hard work is responsible for saving dozens, if not hundreds, of lives on Tython alone.
Little is known about T7 before the droid came into the service of the Jedi. Certain features of its construction hint at it being a custom model built some time ago, but there are no official records to substantiate the theory. Despite the uncertainty of its origins, the droids's enthusiasm and willingness to put itself into harm's way leave little doubt and to its loyalty.
